The Two Greatest Commandments of Jesus

1-Love God with all your heart, mind and soul.

In the book of Mark chapter 12, we encounter one of the most important commandments of Jesus. Love God with everything within you. How is it possible to love God with our everything when we don’t know who God is? We need to pay attention to what Jesus said to the religious teacher of Israel. He told them there is only one Lord, one God. They knew what are all commandments of Moses. They knew the religious law well. But, it seems to look like that way, they wanted to know which is more important, and which one they can prioritise. (Or they wanted to test Jesus!?) This is for us today. There are so many lovable things to hold or obey or follow even. But which one is important? Which one brings life to our dead bones? I am here to end your confusion today by reminding Jesus’ word. Believing God is our Lord and only Him can rescue us and loving God with all our beings are most important that is what Jesus wants us to do today. Can we do that? It is our choice, He never forces us to do anything.

2-Love your neighbour as yourself

1 Peter 4:8

1 John 3:16-18

1 John 4:17

A deep love for each other is the second important command of Jesus. The rooted love for others demands forgiveness and commitment. It does not hold anything against and it does not know enemy or friend, nationalities or background, the skin colour or culture. It is deep in the liquid love of God. It sees and treats everyone the same and equal when they are in need. It is agape love, unconditional and not expecting to return. Think about it, how can we love others this way? How can we love others without expectation? If we are doing so. That’s great. How can we improve it? Loving others as yours eventually back to our choice again. Choose to love others and you see the fruits of heaven more in you and the life to come, Amen?
