Protecting our inner world is more crucial than we often realise. Your heart, the core of your being, shapes your entire outlook and behaviour. It’s where your emotions, decisions, and beliefs truly reside. We need to be mindful of what we allow to enter it, and what we let take root. This isn’t about closing yourself off, but about discernment. It’s about choosing wisely what influences you.
What does “guarding” mean?
It means being aware of the media you consume, the conversations you engage in, and the people you spend your time with. Do these things nourish your spirit or drain it? It means setting healthy boundaries to protect your peace. It’s understanding that not everything meant for others is meant for you. The Bible reminds us powerfully in Proverbs 4:23: “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” This ancient wisdom still holds true today. Cultivating a discerning spirit allows us to flourish. It allows us to keep our inner wellspring pure, ensuring our actions reflect peace and integrity.
