The sting of disappointment from a church community is a deeply personal wound. When trust is broken or expectations aren’t met in a place you thought was safe, it can feel incredibly confusing and isolating. It’s important to realise that you’re not alone in these feelings; many experience this particular kind of hurt. Even when people fail us, God never does. He promises to be close to the brokenhearted, as Psalm 34:18 reminds us.
Finding Healing
Remember, the church, while divine in its calling, is human in its execution. It’s built by imperfect people, prone to human frailty and missteps, just like all of us. This doesn’t excuse poor behaviour, but it can help us differentiate between our faith in Christ and the actions of others. As C.S. Lewis once noted, “To love at all is to be vulnerable.” When we invest our hearts in community, the potential for hurt is always there. Healing takes time and kindness, especially towards yourself. Hold onto the truth that your relationship with God remains steadfast, even when the human elements of church falter. Your faith is personal and resilient.
