Now , Ziba was looking for a position to get the heart of King’s David. Not totally to show respect to King but somehow for the land and the goods. Although , the scripture do not straight talked about he does something under table . But we see in 2 Samuel 16.
When King David was fled to the mountains . He was disturbed and his kingdom was in trouble. He was praying. He was looking for a place to hide.
Ziba , A servant of Saul Now he is serving his master’s son Mephibosheth. He was waiting for him . To show his personal respect to the King. Now King David was in trouble. It was the best time for Ziba to get his position in King’s heart.
We do not know the real motives of Ziba. What is in His mind ? We do not know really.
He met King right at the bottom of the mountain. He brought donkeys , animals ,wine and bread.
“Why have you brought these things?” King asked.
Ziba answered, “The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride on, the bread and fruit are for the men to eat, and the wine is to refresh those who become exhausted in the wilderness.”
It sounds great . Awesome in the place there is a need for those things. There is a proverb in Persia : ” Hi of wolf , is not without greed “. What is the benefit of these for Ziba?
The next question for king was “Where is your master’s grandson?”. How come you are here without him?
” He is in Jerusalem and He thought , ‘Today the Israelites will restore to me my grandfather’s kingdom.’ ” Ziba said. He said this in behalf of Him. But in 2 Samuel 19 we read this is not what Mephibosheth thought. He was lame and could not be able to ride a donkey or horse. There is a reason for this He came here without him.
Then the king said to Ziba, “All that belonged to Mephibosheth is now yours.”
Okaay! That’s what’s he is looking for. There was a fight for the land.
“I humbly bow,” Ziba said. “May I find favour in your eyes, my lord the king.”
In third part and last part of this story will go and see how Mephibosheth explains himself to King David what is truth about Ziba!
