There are two things that a true disciple of Jesus have, but the world does not. Before we look at this in a deep mode, I want to remind us that nothing we can or can not do to earn those. They are inherited by Grace, Grace of Jesus on the Cross. However, not every Christian uses those; they are not only for missionaries or some Christians in the field. I believe they are here to be launched in our everyday life activity not for our proudness and glorious love of life but to God be the glory. Jesus gave power and authority to his disciples, we read this in Luke chapter nine, verse 1. The moment you believe and lay down your life in his hands, you are equipped with power and authority. The power and authority will allow you to drive out demons, cure diseases and proclaim the Kingdom of God bravely. A disciple of the Lord is not weak, it may seem he/she is falling, but in fact, they are falling forward, not backward; they are living in the noble purpose of God. In Jesus, Billy Graham, the great man of faith, preached the Bible with power and authority. The same was for Apostle Peter when he was filled with the Spirit of God and preached with authority.
For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. 1 Corinthians 4:20
The word “power” in both the Old and New Testaments are two hundred seventy-five(275) times. One hundred nineteen times(119) in Old and 156 times in New. However, the word “authority” comes 93 times, two times in Old and 32 times in New. All in NIV version counted. From Genesis to Revelation, at least one verse talks about the importance of power and authority. So, if it is important for God, it must be important for us and be aware of these great gifts. We have power and authority such can change the world and win it for the kingdom of God. If we have the authority of Jesus, we have the authority of the Father; we have the authority of the Holy Spirit. Bible says beautifully this: When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice( Proverbs 29:2a).
Do you want to have power as your brother? and authority as your sister? Listen to the voice of the master, Jesus.
Both are great to have. Indeed it is an honour to carry such a perfect heavenly realm within you. We have the power of resurrection, A gift from our Father in heaven. If these two were familiar for you , let’s try to be one step close to Jesus and use them for the kingdom of God. Not our power, not our authority, but Jesus Christ our Lord.
To the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen. Jude 1:25
