True peace in the face of overwhelming circumstances is a gift Jesus offers. Sometimes life throws us into deep waters, and we feel completely out of control, much like the disciples must have felt. They were experienced fishermen, yet a sudden squall on the Sea of Galilee genuinely terrified them. Waves crashed over their boat, filling it with water, while Jesus slept peacefully in the stern. It’s hard to imagine that level of calm amidst such chaos.
His Powerful Peace
When they woke Him, full of fear, Jesus simply stood up and spoke to the wind and the waves. The Bible tells us, “He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm” (Luke 8:24). Instantly, the wild storm became perfectly still. This wasn’t just a calm after the storm; it was an immediate, dramatic cessation. The disciples were astonished, marvelling at His authority over nature itself.
This incredible moment reminds us that Jesus holds power over all things, even our most fearsome situations. When our world feels like it’s being tossed about, we can realise He is present. His calming voice can bring stillness to our internal storms too. There’s comfort in knowing we don’t face anything alone; He is always there to speak peace into our lives.
