How to study the Bible

Opening the Bible can feel a bit daunting, a big book full of ancient wisdom. It doesn’t have to be complicated to start understanding God’s message for you. Begin by picking a Gospel, like John or Mark. Their stories about Jesus are a wonderful place to meet Him and see His life in action. Don’t worry about trying to understand everything at once; simply read, and let the words wash over you.

Approach with Prayer

Always ask God for insight before you begin. He promises to guide us into truth. As Psalm 119:105 says, ‘Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.’ This makes studying a joint effort. He wants us to realise what He’s trying to tell us.

Context is Key

Think about who wrote it, who they were writing to, and why. This helps clarify the original meaning before you apply it to your own life. Sometimes a good study Bible can help with this historical background. Don’t rush through the text; allow yourself to reflect.

The more you read, the more you’ll uncover its richness. It’s a journey, not a race. Remember, the goal isn’t just knowledge; it’s transformation. Let His words shape your behaviour and your heart. Give yourself grace, and enjoy the process of getting to know God better through His amazing book.
