Come Follow Me

As precious rain pours out across Australia, I am seeking the Holy Spirit to rain heavily from above. The days are so heavy on the heart when you can’t turn off all the news around you; we can’t live in caves like the people of the first century. And hopefully, you will agree with me on this. Everything from war to inflation, natural disasters to family separation caused havoc. If you don’t buy a TV, or if you don’t own a smart mobile device, somehow you can hear all about this chaos from the people you live or work with! It is unavoidable.

It is interesting that in all this mishmash situation, some are aware and some are not. We can not hear Jesus saying, ” Come, follow up” clearly. Let me explain more about this.

It was a normal working day, and Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee. Jesus saw two men, Peter and his brother Andrew. They were fishing to feed their family and pay their bills. Even with no TV, no laptop, no internet, and no mobile devices, they knew this was the best job they could have in this city with no or little education. They’ve been thirsty to find a way or someone to give them a good job. With one sound of the master, Jesus called out, ” I will send you out to fish for people,” as we read in Matthew 4:18-22. Peter and Andrew immediately left their nets and followed Jesus. I think Peter and Andrew thought Jesus was going to pay them well-to-do to fish for people, and yes, they might have heard about Jesus’ miracles and his call. They might think Jesus is opening a business for them so they can work. which was correct in another sense, but not for people, but for God.

When God calls us, our response should be to immediately leave what we are doing and follow Him.

We know how much Jesus can do the best for us and we are ready for a small voice from our God, so then if the sound is there, be ready to respond immediately. We may build a giant boat in this life. The truth is that here we need an immediate response and it does not matter how proud we are to succeed in our lives.

We are successful because we are not blind to responding to the calling of God.

It is very important for us to continue to call on God so that we may know when we need to leave the nets behind and follow him truly. Following him is an attitude of the heart. It is a longing to be with our heavenly Father and there is no push or force in any of it. As we walk the journey of this life to the unknown, let’s keep our inner spiritual ears open to hear when Jesus says, ” Come, follow me.”
