The moment you believe in Jesus and begin walking with God, you attract attributes inherited from your Creator—those true, old, almost-forgotten, awesome heavenly traits. The glory of God overshadows you and transforms you from the inside out. I’ve discussed this extensively in my past posts. The vitality of our new generation is about to be measured by these three attributes. Last night, as I was reading a passage from the Bible, I realised how significant these attributes are for followers of Jesus. They are like veins that allow the blood of Jesus to circulate. In fact, every true follower of Jesus should possess them, whether they are aware of it or not. Let me reveal them to you now:
Paul teaches young Timothy about the real goals: “The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.” (1 Timothy 1:5 NIV)
A Pure Heart
Without a pure heart, everything else is fake. A pure heart doesn’t discriminate; it does not separate or divide but rather mends and unites. Although it’s rare to find a person with a pure heart these days, we are encouraged and positioned to cultivate one. This attribute is so powerful that even possessing a pure heart allows you to see God. In Matthew 5:8, Jesus says, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” It comes from having honesty, integrity, and good intentions in your thought process toward yourself and others.
A Good Conscience
We choose what is right; we have a clear sense of right and wrong, living a life that honors God. A good conscience urges you to forgive first and love first. It avoids wrongdoing, lying, or evading the truth. One of the goals of a follower of Jesus is to have a good conscience.
A Sincere Faith
It involves a deep conviction in the truth of God’s Word. It does not have doubt or hypocrisy, rather trusting God with genuine belief. It commits to authenticity and consistency overall. It takes time to care for others. A person with sincere faith in Christ truly has compassion and sees things from a pure heart, able to discern situations. While it may not change circumstances, circumstances will change in the presence of sincere faith. I witnessed this kind of faith in my mother—for her children, for God, and for people.
Which one do we need to work on more?
