Where Shall I Go Up?

It is amazing to read how the favour of God was with King David throughout his entire life. I was reading the second book of Samuel, chapters 1 to 6, and again and again, I felt that David’s victories were evidence of God’s goodness in his life. I am not looking at just one side of the story, but truly, this is touching and a life lesson for all of us.

Every time David wanted to do something, he asked the Lord, “Where shall I go?” In every battle of life, we should ask the Lord, “Can I do this?” or “What is Your plan for my life, Lord?” One of my habits in the early days of my Christian walk was to ask, “What is the next step?” I want to return to that habit of asking the Lord, just as King David did:

“And the Lord said to David, ‘Go up.’
David said, ‘Where shall I go up?’
And He said, ‘To Hebron.’”
— 2 Samuel 2:1b (NKJV)

We need to let go of ourselves and let God take over. David was so aware that everything he had came from God. He also believed that God had promised him. Our Christian walk is full of mysteries, challenges, and trials, where at times we do not know which way to go or which direction is the right one. You can ask any experienced Christ-follower, and they will tell you: the enemy is at work, and if you fall asleep spiritually, you are letting part of God’s territory slip away.

If you are afraid, do it anyway. God’s plan is bigger than your fears and doubts.

“Where shall I go up?” — this should be a phrase we frequently ask of the Lord. We see how God immediately responded to David, “To Hebron.” I do understand that for some, or even most of us, the answer may not come immediately — it is a process. And that’s okay. What’s important is staying connected to God in both the stormy and joyful moments of life. We are all human, and we all face life’s challenges; no one is immune. We should all agree on this.

David asked three times (2 Samuel 2:1, 5:19, 5:23), and the Lord answered him all three times.

The story is fascinating, full of the hand of God at work. God was simply accomplishing His mission in David’s life. What God is looking for is a heart turned towards Him. He is searching for hearts that genuinely seek Him. We should say: “The battle is the Lord’s. I am here to witness the power of God in my life.”

I pray for change. I pray that our hearts return to the first love of God, and that He removes any obstacle in our lives so that we can be His holy nation.

We need to bring the Lord back to the centre of our lives. We should ask Him about every decision we make, just as David did, and God will give us victory. Are you with me? Let’s examine our hearts and see if there are any areas that need some work. Let’s put aside anything that hinders our walk with Him. If we truly want God to hear our prayers, heal us, and work miraculously in our lives, this is the first step: to obey Him.

Then we would ask these type of questions

” Where Shall I Go Up”

“What Should I do for You”

” What’s my next step”

” Where I need to be for you”
