Two Days to Christmas Devotion, Day 1- A Traveller Companion

I woke up yesterday as usual, got dressed, and went to work. On my way home, I felt compelled to write a devotion for the next two days leading up to Christmas.

As I just did a short trip to New Zealand, before, I’ve been caught up in the routine, work, errands, all the usual tasks. I love exploring new places, though the logistics of booking and planning aren’t exactly my favorite part! Yet isn’t it amazing that in a single day, we can find ourselves on the other side of the globe? We embrace risk to experience new things and create memories. When our time here ends, we won’t take possessions with us, but we’ll carry those precious memories until our final breath.

God did something similar for us, but far more profound. He left us a mark, something eternal we can hold onto not just throughout our earthly lives, but beyond into the unknown. When Baby Jesus first opened His eyes, no one realised He would become our eternal companion and faithful friend. Who wouldn’t want a loyal friend who stays forever?

The Bible calls Him Immanuel, meaning “God with us.” Without Him, what purpose would our existence hold? With Jesus, our lives gain meaning and direction. The struggles won’t disappear, challenges still lurk, ready to ambush us. But let them come. Let them plot whatever they wish. We have someone infinitely greater on our side. A great life traveller companion is with us.

You’re journeying through life with the very best companion. His name is Jesus. He keeps you warm, protected, and filled with joy. You can share laughter with Him and delight in everything He’s created for you. A life overflowing with purpose and love, what could be better?

Jesus came into our world to be with us!

So wherever this season takes you, bring Jesus along. He is the greatest companion, keeping you secure and at peace. So who knows we might be changed when we have spent time with Him. Though the meaning of Holiday or vacation, Christmas gifts,breaks.. bring such rest to our bodies and mind, however the true meaning of Christmas is to know this is all because of Jesus.

Look! A virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, And they will call him, Emmanuel. (Emmanuel means “God with us.”) Matthew 1:23

The precious memories we make with Jesus are unreal and awesome. Whether we are travelling or not, we are the travellers of this world. Let’s invite Him into our broken world, let Jesus in, make Him our friend. Let God come in for this Christmas and the new year ahead.

Your friend
